My Past
I was born in 2005 and raised in Loenhout, Belgium, a farmers’ village on the border with the
Netherlands.
My parents built a veterinary clinic there, which is where my love for animals began. I grew up
surrounded
by animals like horses, cats, chickens, sheep, etc. I spent much of my free time horseback riding.
Alongside the growing love for animals, my imagination was also on a roll. My mom used to call me
“the little inventor” because I was always coming up with ingenious
ideas to solve problems around me. If something was stuck or broken, I was usually the one called to
figure it out, a habit that shaped me into a
curious and hands-on thinker.
After middle school, I went to high school in a STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program for four years, developing the skills I enjoyed most.
When continuing STEM was
no longer an option,
I switched to Science and Math, where I further developed
my technical, logical and practical thinking.
After graduation, I decided to continue in an English course at KdG,
Multimedia & Creative Technologies, in Antwerp. I wanted to develop my
English, meet people from different cultures, and keep working on both
creative and technical skills.
In my first year, I was surprised to discover that the course included some business classes, only one
per semester, but still, because it was promoted as a design- and technical-focused course. At first, I
wasn’t excited about it because it wasn’t what I thought I had signed up for, but now I am so glad to
have that mix of creative, technical, and business skills.
My Present
I am currently in my final year of university. This semester I am spending in Helsinki, Finland on
Erasmus at Haaga-Helia. I’ve been able to take on more
design-focused and software-based courses, whilst also expanding my technical skill set by exploring
3D printing and other hands-on prototyping methods. One of my main
focuses here is working on my bachelor’s project, Snack-a-topia,
which includes designing the game, developing the branding, and creating custom 3D-printed
figurines.
Living in Finland combines my love for travel with my curiosity for new cultures. It has also given
me the chance to improve my communication skills and become more social. Meeting people from
different backgrounds and adapting to new environments has strengthened my creativity,
problem-solving abilities, and collaborative skills. I’m also taking the opportunity to explore,
with trips planned to Tallinn, Stockholm, and Lapland.
All of these experiences, along with my academic work, have made me more detail-oriented, determined, and efficient
in everything I do.
